Frequently Asked Questions

About The Store

Are you related to Books with Pictures in Portland?

We sure are! They are our sister store. The idea for Books With Pictures Eugene came about at a Janelle Monae concert in the summer of 2018. Katie Pryde, the owner of Books With Pictures, turned to Andréa and said, "If I ever opened a second shop, you should run it." "We should talk about that, actually," said Andréa, knee-deep in academia but thinking about changing paths. A year and a half later, Books With Pictures Eugene opened its doors.

As sister stores, both shops operate independently, but share important DNA. Primarily, we both actively foster inclusive environments for comics fans, and we believe community is the core of what makes a comic shop great. Together, both shops hope to spread the message that "Comics Are For Everyone!" to every corner of Oregon. And after that...the world!

Can I pre-order a graphic novel or manga?

Yes! You can even subscribe to ongoing series (for example, if you want to collect the Saga graphic novels but not the single issues). CLICK HERE to learn more about pre-ordering and subscribing.

We have a special membership just for manga readers called Manga Club--CLICK HERE to learn more!

Is there a deadline for pre-ordering or subscribing to a comic?

Yes, there is. It's called "FOC" - short for "Final Order Cutoff." Once FOC has passed, we have ordered our books, and can't order any more until after the book comes out.

If you subscribe or pre-order a title after the "Final Order Cutoff" date, we may not be able to fulfill your order right away. We will try to fulfill your order if we ordered enough extras, but we may have to special order the item after release.

I was picking up a series off of the new comics wall as it came out, but the newest issue isn't here. What happened to that series?

We only have so much wall space and money to order new books. So, when an ongoing series has been going for a long time, we sometimes decides to order subsequent issues for "subs only" in order to make room for new series and more comics.

The best way to make sure you always get a new issue of a book you enjoy is to subscribe!

I pre-ordered/subscribed to a comic that I don't want anymore. What should I do?

You can cancel series subscriptions and preorders using Manage Comics. If you're uncertain, you can always get in touch!

I saw this cool variant cover online, but it's not available to order. What's up?

There are several possibilities. You might be wanting to order a "ratio variant." We don't order single issues in very large quantities, so there we usually don't qualify for these covers...You can only order them if you ordered at least 25, 50, or 100 copies of the comic.

Some stores commission their own variant covers--these "retailer variants" are usually only sold through the store that commissioned them, or through the secondhand collector's market like eBay.

If you're not sure what's going on with a particular cover, don't be shy--just ask us!

I need to know everything about George the Shop Dog.

George is Rhae's dog! He's a mutt, though he probably has some heeler in him. He's got a puppy face, but he's a full grown dog. He's very gentle with kids and babies, and loves comic books.
